Dogwood Wreath

These Dogwood Blossoms are on a small tree, hidden far away in the back hills of the forests of eastern Tennessee. The soft afternoon light was filtering through the forest canopy, softly illuminating these delicate blossoms. The rich burgundy background is composed of the fallen forest leaves from the previous autumn and provides a velvet-like surround which intensifies the luminosity of the white blossoms. The deep, subdued green dogwood leaves provide a visual counterpoint to the vivid white blooms.   The shapes and forms of the blossoms make them seem to be almost in  motion, like a flock of birds or butterflies on some mysterious journey to an enchanted isle.   When contemplating this image, it simply makes my heart sing!
